What are the five main challenges faced by the structural pest control industry in Pakistan?

The structural pest control industry of Pakistan is facing many challenges.

  1. Lack of Regulation and Standardization: There is a lack of check and balance in regulating pest control and pesticides; anyone without any proper training and certification is using pesticides blindly. There is less control over regulations and standardization, and many non-registered companies are bypassing laws and regulations due to the unstable political situation and law enforcement.
  2. Resistance to Pesticides: Overuse of pesticides and using pesticides without knowing the behavior of the pests induced resistance in the insect pests. So it is becoming hard to control insect pests due to resistance in the insect pests.
  3. Public awareness and education: The masses are less aware of professional pest control services, and they are not highly educated about pest control. The people get any pesticide, bait, or poison from the open market and use it to kill the pests in their homes and workplaces. But now a days, due to social media and other means of communication, public awareness is increasing.
  4. Training and Certification: There is a lack of trained and certified professionals in structural pest control in the industry. Pest control professionals should be trained according to
international standards. IPM Certification is now the first training program to train pest control professionals according to international standards.
  5. Environmental Concerns: The chemicals, such as pesticides and fumigants, used in pest control are highly toxic and effect our environment negatively. So only approved pesticides and according to label instructions by a certified technician or supervised by a certified person are applied.
